Connection Acceptance Loving Kindness Mindfulness

Welcome
Embrace Calm Yoga is all about slowing down and finding a place of calm within.
In a world that is goal-driven and fast-paced, feelings of intolerance, anxiety, stress and fatigue are evident. However, rushing about is counter productive to our well-being, happiness and fulfilment.
Consciously slowing down our breathing, the way we speak to one another, our walking, our driving, etc., helps to relax the body. Slowing down helps to keep us calm and composed and feel more confident. The calmer we become the better we are able to interact with people and people in turn will find it a more pleasant experience to interact with us!
I believe that yoga is for all to enjoy and to benefit from.
We all have different experiences of life. We are all different shapes and sizes.
Start from where you are.

What To Expect In Class
In my classes you can expect:
- to experience gentle movement practices which include flows from one posture to another,
- static poses which are held for several breaths to allow you to fully “let go” into them,
- breath awareness and breathing practices,
- yoga philosophy,
- meditation
- relaxation practices.
We will be using props such as blocks, bricks, chairs, straps, blankets during our practice.
Props are great learning tools that help us to:
- tune into our body
- find ease and stillness in a pose
- provide comfort
- understand the pose
- make an otherwise inaccessible pose more achievable
- provide a deeper sense of stability
- improve strength
- increase flexibility
We will be practicing in the hall and sometimes part of the class will take place outside in the rear garden.
Students of Embrace Calm Yoga also receive a weekly yoga related email to inspire yoga practice off the mat. Some of our recent off the mat topics have led to students having conversations over a coffee, walking barefoot in the garden, to seeing how they feel when blowing bubbles!
Embrace Calm Yoga With Laura

LOCATED AT BARNWOOD READING ROOM, GLOUCESTER:
Barnwood Reading Room is a lovely picturesque building, set back from the main road, with a rear garden enclosed by shrubs and trees. Built in 1898 it was used as a parish meeting hall and library. Now it is hired out for functions and classes. The hall has a wooden floor, high ceiling and large windows. There is also a kitchen, cloakroom and toilet on site.
There is no parking available on site but the church directly opposite Barnwood Reading Room kindly allows parking in its large car park free of charge.
Barnwood Road can be very busy. Please take extra care when crossing. There is a pedestrian crossing a short walk up the road and a zebra crossing in the opposite direction.
NOTE : PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN FRONT OF THE HALL FOR ANY REASON. The car park in front of the hall belongs to the dentist next door.
NOTE: DO NOT PARK in the driveway at the side of Barnwood Reading Room. Access is required at all times.

Testimonials
Laura is a dedicated teacher who obviously thoroughly enjoys her chosen subject…I truly enjoy every lesson with Laura and have learnt more about yoga than I have done before after 30 years of practice.
Glen
Laura’s class while calm and relaxing also helps to strengthen the body and improve posture. She takes the time to explain how yoga helps us and the philosophy behind what we are learning.
Ian
A little piece of calm heaven. Laura provides a welcoming friendly, calm space for people of all ages and abilities to connect to themselves. The lovely thing about Laura’s class is that you are very much encouraged to work within your own abilities. It is totally relaxing and a chance to completely switch off from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and concentrate on your own wellbeing. It has become an important part of my week

About Me

I came to yoga nine years ago suffering with debilitating menopausal symptoms. I found the classes were soon very important to me as a necessary part of my week as I began to connect to my body, breath and mind. Grandually I began to find a sense of calm and wellbeing.
My journey began to qualify as a yoga teacher in 2020. Since then I have had the privilege of attending courses and studying with several internationally respected yoga teachers.
I qualified as an Advanced Yoga Teacher (RYT 500) in January 2025. I also have Teacher Training qualifications in Yoga Anatomy, Chair Yoga (Accessible Yoga) and Mental Health First Aid.
I continue to learn and evolve personally and professionally by attending courses and workshops. I am constantly fascinated by the discoveries I make in my own yoga research from the latest science evidence-based side of yoga as well as through the traditional yoga philosophies. I also enjoy the Myths that some of the yoga poses are based around. All my discoveries are woven into class themes along with poetry and short readings from a variety of authors, all of which help to illuminate the concepts and teachings from the yoga tradition.
When I am not on my mat I love being outdoors surrounded by nature: a woodland walk at dawn listening to the birds, a paddle in the sea and walking barefoot in the sand, breathing the air and taking in the view from the top of a hill or mountain!
I look forward to welcoming you to Embrace Calm Yoga.
